Overview: Petroglyph Slot Canyon is a short and scenic non-technical slot canyon located within the greater Snow Canyon and St. George region of southwestern Utah. The canyon features narrow sandstone corridors, smooth sculpted walls, lava rock surroundings, and ancient petroglyph panels carved into the canyon walls.

This route combines easy desert hiking with accessible slot canyon exploration and cultural history, making it popular among hikers, photographers, and families seeking a shorter canyon adventure.

The canyon is generally easy to navigate and does not require technical gear, though minor scrambling and narrow passages may be encountered.

Approach: From St. George, access Snow Canyon State Park via Snow Canyon Parkway. Depending on the chosen access point, park at designated roadside pullouts or trailhead areas providing access toward the petroglyph and slot canyon region.

Follow sandy desert trails and washes toward the narrow canyon entrance.

Route Description: The route begins through open desert terrain before entering increasingly narrow sandstone corridors.

The slot sections are relatively short but scenic, with twisting corridors and sculpted canyon walls characteristic of southwestern Utah slot canyons. Petroglyphs can be found on sections of the canyon walls and surrounding rock formations. These cultural resources are protected and should never be touched, climbed on, or disturbed.

Water Conditions: The canyon is typically dry. Flash flooding remains possible during storms despite the canyon’s relatively short and accessible nature.

Exit: Return the same way to the trailhead or roadside access point.

Important Notes:

  • Snow Canyon State Park entrance fee required
  • Cultural and archaeological sites are protected
  • Do not touch or damage petroglyphs
  • Flash flooding is possible
  • Summer heat can become extreme
  • Stay on established trails where possible
  • Limited shade outside narrow canyon sections

Petroglyph Slot Canyon provides an accessible combination of slot canyon scenery, desert hiking, and cultural history within the greater St. George and Snow Canyon region.
