Maintain good health and fitness. Many injuries can occur while embarking on any activity however, canyoneering is often especially rough on your body. The canyoneering environment is extreme and takes its toll on you. Reaching high levels of fitness and doing a lot of strength training might be best before you attempt this physically demanding sport.


The following are 12 basic stretches. Stretching, in any sport, is the easiest way to avoid injury. Having been active most of my life, I regret not stretching more often and have had too many injuries from too much exertion on my body when simple stretching could have prevented it.
